The star has given the full amount of his £25k Mercury Prize prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which works to preserve the UK's independent live music spots.

He was awarded the prize on mid-October as his new release the album was named the top album of the previous year.

Fender has decided to hand the money over to the trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function local spots fulfilled in his initial steps.

"I personally would not have achieved this success if it weren't for all the shows I did around the area, and further afield, when I was just getting going," said Sam Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – about one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Recently, well-known musicians like Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to support the industry, by including a modest fee to their ticket prices, which benefits independent venues.

He also participated, raising over £100k on his recent tour to assist thirty-eight small stages across the UK.

The donation supported locations that were facing imminent closure due to issues arising from water damage, fires and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and noise complaints.

Additional spaces were granted financial assistance in modernizing infrastructure and gear that helped musicians and fans.

"The concept that money from concerts in large arenas backs the smaller venues, where it begins for musicians like me, is just common sense," the star has stated.

Previously, they gave their funds to the youth organization that nurtured their band, alongside other local music groups.

And 1994 winners they donated their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a acquaintance was found to have the disease.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," remarked vocalist the singer. "The prize was the extra but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the cake. So our winning impacted the lives of others."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had rescued several small stages in south-east England, by transferring them to local control.

The first in that area and The Croft in Bristol were bought under the public acquisition program, which is funded by Arts Council England and music fans who acquire "shares" in the properties.
